Every post in The Journal is tagged by topic, so that notes on the same subject can be read together. Each tag below opens a page listing all the posts that carry it, newest first, with a short summary of each one.

The tags apply to the Journal only. The library itself, the historical books and texts that make up most of Chapters of Dublin, is organised by book rather than by tag. Each book has its own contents page, reached from All chapters or from the list of books at the foot of every page. Within a book, every chapter links to the one before and after it, so a whole volume can be read in order. Chapters from smaller sources and single articles are collected under General Dublin History.

If you are looking for a particular place, person or event rather than a book, the site search matches the title and opening summary of every chapter. Searching for a parish, a district or a family name is often the quickest way to find chapters from several books on the same subject, since the same places appear again and again in the older histories. New tags are added as the Journal grows, and each one is listed here with the number of posts that use it.
