Contacting the site today

The page below comes from the 2007 version of the site. Its support forum and email form no longer work, and the email addresses it gives may be out of date. The current Get In Touch page, written by Ken Finlay, invites opinions, corrections and additions, as well as material suitable for inclusion in the archive. It notes that coverage of the twentieth century is limited because copyright lasts for 70 years after the death of an author.

As the 2007 page explained, the site does not carry out research on behalf of others. Many questions can nevertheless be answered from the material already published here.

Help with family and local history

Genealogy questions were a common reason for contacting the site. The pages Ancestry & Genealogy and genealogy hints, links and tips collect resources for tracing Irish ancestors, including civil registration, parish registers and adoption tracing, and the History and Genealogy Links page lists record offices such as the National Archives of Ireland, the National Library of Ireland and the General Register Office.

For local history, F. Elrington Ball’s History of County Dublin covers parishes across the county, Short Histories of Dublin Parishes and History of the Dublin Catholic Cemeteries are useful for church and burial records, and Dublin Street Names, Dated and Explained explains the origins of many street names. The all chapters page lists every book on the site.

The recovered 2007 contact page follows below.
